If you’ve been over to Harrison Park for a winter stroll recently, you may have noticed the Mile Drive Trail has yet to be paved.
The $100,000 resurfacing project has been postponed until the spring.
Owen Sound’s Manager of Parks and Open Spaces Adam Parsons says ground conditions did not allow it to be completed as scheduled in December, in order to ensure a high quality finish.
Parsons expects it will likely be late April until the trail resurfacing can be completed.
Council allocated $100,000 in the 2020 city budget for the work, in order to further improve accessibility and reduce ongoing maintenance.
The portion of the Mile Drive Trail that will be paved is currently gravel and runs through a forested area along the east side of the Sydenham River. The trail then crosses a bridge back over the river and loops back through the west side of Harrison Park.
Parsons notes the trail is one of several that is winter maintained at Harrison Park, to allow people to enjoy the outdoors during the cold season.
