Ontario’s Health Minister says the Province is doing everything it can to get more Pfizer vaccine doses.
Pfizer is currently retooling its plant in Belgium which is resulting in a shortage of vaccine doses for Canada.
Christine Elliott says the next Ontario shipments will be less than previously planned.
She says the next one will be 20 per cent less while the one after that will have 80 per cent fewer vaccine doses.
“But those are until we get into the month of March,” she said. “Very early on – late February – early March – we’re going to be receiving larger doses of vaccines coming in, so this is a very temporary situation,” said Elliott.
Premier Doug Ford says the shortage impact is huge but he says there is still the Moderna coming in.
Ford says the current problem shows Ontario needs to be making its own vaccines in the future.
