Oro-Medonte residents are being urged to have some fun in the snow for a chance to win some money to spend at local businesses.
A friendly snowman building competition has been started by the Township.
Residents are asked to create their own snowman in their front, side or backyards – it’s a way to get outside for some healthy activity in the fresh, crisp air.
All you have to do is build a snowman – business owners are encouraged to build one too at their businesses.
Then take a picture of it and share on social media using the hashtag #oromedontesnowman indicating your contest category in the post.
There are three categories – Frosty, Creative and Business.
Category winners will be picked by who has the highest amount of Facebook likes per submission at the closing of the competition.
The closing date is weather-dependent and targeted for February 28th.
Here’s what to think about when it comes to the categories:
Traditional – Think “Frosty”
Creative – Think colours, shape, size, design and style
Business – This category is for local businesses.
How to Vote:
Category winners will be based on the highest number of Facebook likes per individual snowman submission at the closing of the competition.
Remember to like and follow your submission and share with your friends and family.
Prizing:
1st, 2nd, 3rd prize winners from each category will be given a gift certificate for an Oro-Medonte business of their choice.
1st prize – $100.00 gift certificate
2nd prize – $50.00 gift certificate

“On behalf of members of Council, I personally encourage Oro-Medonte residents and businesses to take part in the contest, have fun, and get some fresh air,” says Mayor Harry Hughes. “We understand the usual way of enjoying winter with extended family and friends is challenging right now due to COVID-19. The Township is looking forward to supporting local Oro- Medonte businesses through prizing, and we also encourage businesses to enter their snowman creations through the business contest category.”
