The Prime Minister has conducted a small cabinet shuffle today, following the departure of Navdeep Bains, the minister of innovation, science and industry.
Navdeep Bains wants to spend more time with his family and does not intend to run in the next federal election, which could come as early as this spring.
During a virtual swearing in ceremony this morning, Foreign Affairs Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne took over the role.
Transport Minister Marc Garneau will replace Champagne as Foreign Affairs Minister, while Toronto-area MP Omar Alghabra will be in charge of the Transport portfolio.
Justin Trudeau will be spending the rest of his day at a virtual cabinet retreat to plot strategy for the resumption of Parliament on January 25th.
