Eighteen new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Thursday in Grey Bruce.
Public Health says four are in West Grey, three are in Owen Sound, two are in South Bruce, two are in Hanover, two in Blue Mountains, two in Grey Highlands and one each in Chatsworth, Huron Kinloss and Kincardine.
Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra says over 50 per cent of these new cases are people who acquired the virus through transmission during holiday gatherings with family and friends.
The Health Unit says with ten recoveries, there are 59 active cases in the region and nine active probable cases. Probable cases are not lab confirmed, but are symptomatic and are high-risk contacts of an active case.
Public Health says there are 178 High Risk Contacts associated with the region’s active cases.
One person from Grey Bruce is currently hospitalized.
No one has died locally.
There is one long-term care facility with outbreak status, Sepoy Manor in Lucknow after a person working there tested positive.
There are no outbreaks in schools or childcare centres in Grey Bruce.
