Just $37,800 needs to be raised for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation’s purchase of a new x-ray machine.
Foundation Executive Director Tracy Murray says the Light The Way campaign was a huge success, raising $412,000 to go towards the $510,000 price of the machine.
That includes $185,000 raised in 98 the beach’s annual Light the Way radiothon.
On top of that, the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has committed to donating $51,000 over the next three years to the Hospital Foundation for the x-ray campaign.
The Chantry Island Cham-bettes’ virtual Christmas Home Tour raised $9,200 as well, bringing the total to $463,000.
Murray says the new machine is necessary in order to replace the aging existing equipment which is over 15 years old.
Board Chair Jo Arnett says, in a statement,”Fundraising has been unpredictable through 2020 and heading into 2021 due to the ripple effects of COVID both financially and socially for our community,” Arnett says, “We didn’t set an official
internal goal for this year’s campaign for that reason. We went out to the community for support of the needed
x-ray equipment but we really had no idea what giving would look like this year for people”
Tracy Murray says, “The impact of the generosity and support from residents, local businesses and clubs literally touches the lives of everyone in our community.”
