The Progressive Conservative MPP for Huron-Bruce says any repercussions for elected officials traveling against the advice of health officials are above her pay grade.
In a year-end interview with Country 104.9 News, Lisa Thompson was asked about the recent Caribbean trip by then-Finance Minister Rod Phillips.
“I stand with them, not only in supporting our small businesses, but doing everything I can do lead by example when it comes to flattening this second wave.”
Premier Doug Ford asked Phillips to return from his vacation immediately, who resigned the Finance portfolio shortly after.
While Thompson agrees elected officials should lead by example, she would not comment on disciplinary actions for those in elected office violating recommendations from health officials to avoid unnecessary travel.
“Quite frankly, those type of decisions are above my pay grade.”
Thompson says communities in Huron and Bruce counties have done a “great job making sure numbers and community spread are mitigated very quickly.”
