Warden Glen McNeil is hoping Huron County makes headway on a major project in 2021.
In a year-end interview with Country 104.9 News, McNeil says he has high hopes for a broadband internet expansion currently underway for the county.
The Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology program (SWIFT) project looks to connect the far stretches of rural Ontario to broadband internet.
Huron County agreed in 2017 to contribute roughly $678 thousand toward the project.
“It make take another year or two before it happens. It will likely be ’22, but it will happen,” says McNeil.
The Warden has hopes the county will take further steps to attract businesses to the area, as COVID-19 has prompted a wave of at-home workers.
“We have a number of individuals that live in larger cities… if they have the opportunity to live next to the lake, life doesn’t get any better than that.”
