A fire on New Year’s Eve caused significant damage to a house in Neustadt but no one was injured.
West Grey firefighters were called to the blaze on Queen Street just after 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, and arrived to find smoke swelling from the home.
The occupants of the home managed to escape safely before fire crews reached the scene.
Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control fairly quickly, but the house suffered extensive smoke, fire and water damage.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but a West Grey Fire Department official says it’s believed to have started in the basement of the home.
