Grey Bruce residents are digging their vehicles out of a significant snowfall today, and it’s likely more shoveling lies ahead.
Grey County has declared a significant weather event due to ongoing snowfall in the area.
The County says, the declaration isn’t notice of a reduced level of service or a road closure. It is to notify the public that due to the current or forecasted conditions, caution is to be observed when travelling on rods maintained by Grey County. The County says it may take longer than usual to bring the roads back to optimal conditions.

Meanwhile, environment Canada says snow squalls continue through this afternoon before weakening this evening. They say wind gusts up to 50 km/h will result in local blowing snow, particularly over exposed areas. Forecast:https://www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca/weather/
According to Environment Canada, additional local snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are possible by this evening, with quickly accumulating snow of up to 5 cm per hour at times. They say there will be poor visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow and travel is likely to be hazardous through this afternoon.
Environment Canada notes,”Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
Bruce County says on twitter, “To drive or not to drive in wintry weather is a big decision. Ask yourself do you really need to travel, is it safe, & is it worth the risk? It’s OK to stay where you are. Abandoned vehicles could be towed & fined.”
