Covid-19 cases continue to grow at an alarming rate in Ontario.
New modelling suggests ICU beds will be above 300 ten days from now and over 1,500 beds per day under the worst-case scenario by mid-January.
Dr. Adalsteinn Brown, the co-chair of Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, says hard lockdowns can get us down to lower than 1,000 cases per day overall.
“If we continue on at about 1-3 per cent growth we are going to be between 3,000 and 5,000 cases by the 4th week in January,” he said. “If we see substantial growth at 7 per cent, similar to other jurisdictions to where it’s taken off – you could see greater than 30,000 cases by the end of January.”
Brown says there has been a 30-50 per cent increase in cases since last month.
