A couple of grocery store checkout donation campaigns are bringing some help and cheer to the Owen Sound community this holiday season.
Bags of gifts have been put together for six long-term care homes in the city with a total of 464 residents.
Each bag contains a throw blanket, a pair of thermal socks, an activity book and an ornament.
Richard’s No Frills in Owen Sound organized the fundraiser called the ’12 days of fundraising,’ where people were asked if they’d like to donate while at the checkout.
The store’s goal was to raise $5,000 and by the end of the campaign $9,702 was raised. A Facebook Post from the store says, “We are so proud to announce that because of everyone’s generosity that each and every single resident from Kelso Villa, Kelso Pines, MapleView, Lee Manor, Georgian Heights and Summit place homes will ALL receive a gift bag each!”
Richard’s No Frills says the remaining funds are being used to buy puzzles, games, paint, canvases and books for each of the homes.
The add, “The generosity shown by each and everyone that donated has truly warmed our hearts more than you will ever know. We will be posting more later this week as we prepare the gifts to be delivered.”
Meanwhile, at Foodland in Owen Sound, the store is matching Salvation Army donations that are made at the checkout until December 26th.
