Barrie is planning to open its two main outdoor ice rinks this Saturday, weather permitting.
If the weather allows, the Circle at the Centre rink (outside City Hall) will open daily from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m for pleasure skating only (no hockey permitted).
New this year, as a result of COVID restrictions, the Centennial Park outdoor rink will be designated for pleasure skating only and is also scheduled to be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Skaters are required to follow safety procedures when using outdoor rinks, including the following:
As per consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), outdoor ice surfaces will be opened with limited access and services this winter:
- Ice surface occupancy protocols will be in place. Signage at each location will identify the maximum number of skaters permitted on the ice surface at one time.
- Changerooms and washrooms will not be open. Please plan your visits with these restrictions in mind.
- No shinny hockey, broomball, ringette, or other type of scrimmage activity will be permitted on outdoor ice surfaces.
- Please consider wearing mask or face covering while using an ice surface if 2 metre distancing cannot be maintained.
The other City-operated outdoor rinks (at Heritage Park Pond, Eastview Park, Lampman Lane Park, Redpath Park and Shear Park) will open as soon as possible, weather-permitting.
