With the help of friends and Rockwood Terrace Long-term Care Home staff, a Grey County long-term care home resident has one less thing on her bucket list.
A Facebook post from Grey County says during the pandemic, the County’s three Long-Term Care Homes implemented a Designated Care Partner (DCP) program to help ensure the social and emotional needs of their residents were met.
Each resident chose up to two people to be their Designated Care Partner.
The County says, following Ministry guidelines, these Care Partners are educated on infection prevention and provide proof of negative COVID-19 tests every 14 days.
During a recent care conference call, Rockwood Terrace resident ‘Muriel H.’ mentioned a ballroom dancing lesson was always on her bucket list.
The County says, “As chance would have it, program staff quickly recognized that Jim, a Designated Care Partner on the same wing as Muriel, was in fact a ballroom dancing instructor.”
With the support of Muriel and her family, staff worked with Jim to arrange a private, COVID-19 safe ballroom dancing lesson.
The County says, “On December 13th, Muriel arrived in full dress attire, donning a corsage and ready to meet her dance partner. A panel of family judges watched outside and scored the couple’s dance routine, flashing 10s across the board.”
They add, “Thanks to a willingness from Jim and staff to do something special, and by following all policy procedures, a distant dream was turned into reality.”
