Fred Geberdt Passes
A prominent member of the sporting fabric of Owen Sound & area, Fred Geberdt has passed away.
A long time member of the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Club and a fixture as a derby chair or co-chair with the annual Salmon Spectacular, Fred Geberdt died yesterday after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Geberdt was well known in many circles, including the Bluewater Board of Education, where he was a popular teacher, primarily in science studies.
The passing of Fred Geberdt comes just days after the Salmon Spectacular announced their intention to operate their annual event in 2021 and in the same week he was named as the city of Owen Sound’s Senior of the Year.
Western League Waits
The Western Hockey League announced it will delay the start of the 2020-21 regular season.
The 22 team WHL which operates in 4 Canadian provinces & 2 American states had planned to launch their season on January 8th.
The Board of Governors will meet in January to discuss potential start dates for the season.
The Ontario Hockey League plans to begin its season in early February.
