Saugeen Shores is welcoming three new doctors to town.
A release from the Town says three physicians have committed to practicing in Saugeen Shores now and in the near future.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says in a statement, “The recruitment of doctors is a top priority and I am pleased to see the continued success of our physician recruitment program at bringing new doctors to the area,” adding, “This year has reminded us of the importance of local healthcare. The addition of these three new doctors is great news for Saugeen Shores.”
According to the Town, these agreements are a direct outcome of the physician recruitment program, funded in partnership by the Town of Saugeen Shores, the Municipality of Kincardine and Bruce Power.
Staff reports presented to council give some background on each doctor.
Dr. Shaji Khan intends to work in the Emergency Department of the Southampton Hospital and also support existing local Doctors in their established practices. Once familiar with local health care needs, Dr. Khan has committed to establishing his own family practice in Saugeen Shores and practicing for a minimum of 5 years.
Dr. Cristina Musngi is an experienced family physician currently operating in the GTA area who has vacationed in Saugeen Shores for years. She plans to work out of the Dr. Earl Health Centre as part of its Family Health Network. Musngi will be working from space in the clinic vacated by Dr. McCulloch following his retirement.
A Town staff report says while its physician service agreements have typically been offered to fully qualified Doctors, the third agreement gives Joel Young funding prior to him completing medical school and becoming a fully licensed doctor. Staff say it allows for “long term planning of our physician needs and assists us in meeting the needs created by growth of our community.”
