Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ”
On the heels of the announcement that the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular will be conducted in 2021, the Lake Huron Fishing Club also confirmed that they too will conduct their annual fishing derby; The Chantry Chinook Classic.
The 2021 Chantry Chinook is scheduled to commence on Saturday July 24th and run through Sunday August 8th.
The Classic which is conducted by the Lake Huron Fishing Club, was cancelled last year after decades of continuous angling competition.
The event had been running since the mid-80’s and the interruption due to COVID-19 last year meant more than 1500 anglers weren’t where they normally are in mid-Summer.
Looking at the prize structure for the derby, the heaviest Salmon this year will win $15,000 while the heaviest Trout will get $ 7,500. Plus, there’s all kinds of weekly weight prizes and hidden weight prizes during the course of the Chantry.
Of course, like the Salmon Spectacular, there’s no absolute guarantee at this very moment that come derby time there won’t be a minor to major alteration.
But both organizations realized, as the anglers say, they had to fish or cut bait and not surprisingly, both derbys conducted by regional conservation clubs elected to fish.
Sponsors are being lined up, prize packages are being assembled, tickets are being printed and the level of anticipation, more than 200 days away, is rising for the Lake Huron Fishing Club’s Chantry Chinook Classic.
I’m Fred Wallace
