Meaford is celebrating this year’s Dragons event winners.
The event was held online last week (Dec 2nd) due to COVID-19 and the show was hosted by comedian, actor and writer, Andrew Chapman and filmed at Woodford Hall earlier in the year.
The final winners were kept secret until the final broadcast.
Contestants were Sue Bazant of Czech It Out; Adam Harrington of Northern Nutrition Pet Treat & Food Company; Grace Morin of Little Wren Hair Studio; Tom Thwaits of the Big Canoe Project; and Emily Veldman and Sara Brown of The Purple Hollow.
The ‘Dragons’ or judges were Daryl Johnson of Amici’s; Marie-Catherine Marsot of The Frauxmagerie; Nancy Sharma of Broker Link; Thomas Vincent of Global Hospitality; and Robert Voigt of Parkbridge.
Organizers say the ‘Slayers’ made impressive pitches in vying for over $15,000 in cash and prizes. In the end, all five contestants received valuable prizes with the big winners being:
1st place: The Purple Hollow received $7,600 in cash and prizes, including $500 for the Meaford Rotary Club Audience Choice Award, for their agricultural tourism farm specializing in lavender, sunflowers, and specialty cut flowers – offering handmade and culinary goods, bouquets, wholesale flowers, and educational tours. They plan to open in August 2021.
2nd place: The Northern Nutrition Pet Treat & Food Company took second place with $3,175 in cash and prizes for their business, which produces premium-quality pet treats using only the best locally sourced ingredients.
The Meaford Chamber of Commerce says it wants to thank its sponsors for helping make the virtual event possible. More information on all of the participants, and a complete list of sponsors, can be found on the Chamber website at: https://meafordchamber.ca/meaford-dragons.
