This holiday season, Creating Connection (Barrie) is supporting the local Fill A Purse For A Sister campaign with a pop-up drop-in day at their downtown location.
It is taking place tomorrow (Saturday) from 1-3pm, with standard COVID-19 health and safety protocols in place.
Everyone is invited to get involved in helping to bring comfort, hope, and dignity to women and youth in crisis with the gift of purses filled with personal necessities.
Contributions of beloved gently used purses (or brand new) and items from the list below (on their own or in a purse), are needed in these last days of the campaign. Volunteers are also needed to help fill empty purses with items received separately.
Folks are welcome to stop by on Nov. 28 between 1-3 p.m. at 12 Chase McEachern Way (near the bottom of Bayfield Street, off the parking lot across from the Salvation Army) to drop-off their items, help as a volunteer, or to make a financial contribution by cash, cheque, or credit/debit card.
Suggested items for filling the purses include feminine hygiene products, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, cloth face mask, hand sanitizer, hairbrush, lip balm, hat, gloves, scarf, notepad and pen, coffee shop gift card, whistle, and flashlight (no used items or food of any kind please).
Recipients of these donations include local organizations, including the Barrie Food Bank, David Busby Centre, Youth Haven (Barrie), the Elizabeth Fry Society of Simcoe County, and the Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie.
“This is an example of what we call -Connection In Action-” says Troy Roach, Director of Creating Connection, “and together we can affirm the worth of all persons through the blessings of an event such as this. By providing space and opportunity for grace and generosity to be lived out through the community, we can make a difference in the lives of others, and help to bring a little more peace and unity to our world.”
Financial contributions can also be made through PayPal or e-transfer to donations@creatingconnection.ca and will be used to purchase purses and/or items on behalf of the donor.
