Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
I always thought ” snafu ” was a legitimate word, and I guess it is, but until I looked it up in the context of the Brampton Excelsiors Major Lacrosse Club moving to Owen Sound, I never actually knew the origin of the term or what the letters in snafu represented.
But let me say this; the pending shift of the Excelsiors to Owen Sound, that’s been a snafu.
We mentioned before that this transfer has been in the air for quite some time, probably from the moment Joe Norton took over the ownership or operation of the Owen Sound Senior NorthStars.
Beyond that, everything is muddled and the truth truly depends on who’s speaking at what particular hour of the day.
It was announced a little more than a week ago the Excelsiors were shifting operations to Owen Sound.
The announcement was confirmed by Joe Norton who owns both the NorthStars and the Excelsiors.
Or does he ?
The Brampton Excelsiors Board of Directors in a statement this week said Norton is in fact the owner and has been since 2018 and they have no plans to protest or impede the transfer.
Or do they ?
There’s at least one member of the Excelsiors Board of Directors who disputes the ownership issue and is calling on provincial organizations and lacrosse governors to investigate the sequence of events.
Meanwhile as this was swirling in Brampton, this past Tuesday, Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse, the Junior B program & the Senior Bug Juice NorthStars met to formulate plans for the arrival of the new Major entity.
The Ontario Lacrosse Board of Governors will meet next month and the question remains, will they formally approve the Excelsiors move or will there will be more sideshows in this ongoing snafu ?
I’m Fred Wallace
