Victim Services Huron used an announcement of federal grant money to recognize volunteers.
The organization announced they received a grant from the Department of Justice Canada, which will be used to purchased a branded Victim Services jacket for volunteers.
Volunteers with Victim Services give countless hours of their time to offer supports to individuals that have been victims of crime and tragic circumstances.
Executive Director Deborah Logue tells Country 104.9 News the organization had seen a slight uptick of calls this past June, compared to 2019.
Logue says Victim Services Huron received 17 additional calls this June, compared to last year.
She tells us the uptick in calls is likely not due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but due to the community’s awareness of their services.
While the novel coronavirus has forced many people indoors, Logue tells us children can be especially vulnerable without support systems, like school and daycare.
