The annual test of the emergency alert system is taking place today.
The Alert Ready test message will be sent over TV, radio and compatible wireless devices at approximately 12:55 p.m.
An emergency alert is a public safety message issued by an authorized government agency for a situation posing a threat to life.
The Alert Ready system was developed with many partners, including federal, provincial and territorial emergency management officials, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Pelmorex, the broadcasting industry and wireless service providers.
But once again, don’t panic, it’s only a test.
So far this year in Ontario, there have been 78 Emergency Alert Messages issued, which is the most in Canada.
- 9 civil emergency
- 2 radiological hazard
- 5 AMBER
- 60 tornado
- 2 Wildfire
