Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 43 year old Arran-Elderslie man after an incident at a restaurant in Springmount.
OPP say they were called just after 6 Friday morning (Nov 20th) to the restaurant at Highway 6 and 21 for a complaint about threats.
OPP say they were told a customer had entered the business before the restaurant dining room was open. According to police, the man became ‘irate’ when asked to leave and defecated on the floor, then threatened an employee before leaving the business.
Police say they attended the scene and located the suspect near the restaurant.
They say they used a Conducted Energy Weapon (like a Taser) during the man’s arrest.
OPP say he faces charges related to uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and mischief.
Meanwhile, Grey Bruce OPP Detachment Commander Acting Inspector Paul Schambers says, “Ontario Provincial Police is committed to preserving public safety. The Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) is a valuable intermediate use of force option that can be used in situations, taking into account the totality of the circumstances, and the imminent need to control an individual. The actions of our officers defused a highly aggressive individual from possibly harming a member of the public, an officer or themselves.”
