The Grey Bruce Health Unit confirmed 12 new Covid cases in the region Thursday.
According to Public Health, six Southgate residents, two people from Hanover, and one person from each of Owen Sound, Blue Mountains, Kincardine and Grey Highlands tested positive.
Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra says three of the new cases are from one family, while at least three others are close contacts of previous cases Public Health had been monitoring.
Grey Bruce now has 53 active known cases. Two of those people are currently hospitalized.
Over the course of the pandemic, there have not been any deaths attributed to Covid in Grey Bruce.
Arra notes Public Health is also working with the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board to address a probable Covid case — which has not yet been lab confirmed — associated with Sacred Heart High School in Brockton.
Public Health says its assessment of this probable case concludes transmission did not take place at the school.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit says staff and students that had close contact have already been notified and are isolating. Anyone not contacted by Public Health is not considered at risk and need not take any additional steps.
According to the health unit, Grey Bruce does not have any outbreaks at long-term care or retirement homes, schools or daycares.
