Bognor Hall is set to undergo renovations in the new year after Meaford council awarded a contract for a revamp of the facility.
Meaford councillors resolved at their meeting Monday to approve a $216,000 tender to Shertine Construction Limited for the rehabilitation of the Bognor Hall Community Centre.
It was the lowest of four bids received for the project. Councillors were told by Meaford staff at Monday’s meeting the project is about $33,000 under budget.
The Bognor Community Centre was built in 1959 and many of the original finishes and fixtures are still in use today, according to a report by Meaford’s Treasurer and Director of Corporate Services Darcy Chapman.
The community centre includes a dance arena, kitchen, serving room, mechanical room and washrooms.
Chapman’s report explains a facility conditions assessment of the Bognor Hall Community Centre called for a number of upgrades including the removal of wall paneling, addition of new insulation, flooring replacements, wiring and lighting updates, reconditioning of the hardwood dance floor and several accessibility upgrades.
The project is expected to commence in January and be complete by the end of March 2021.
The Bognor Hall Community Centre will be closed during the construction period.
