Public Health Grey Bruce is reporting ten new cases of COVID-19 Sunday and six on Saturday.
The Health Unit says in a statement it has been seeing what it calls a, ‘Deeply concerning trend of a significant increase in the number of cases locally, and in the number of close contacts of these cases.’
The Health Unit says these findings are indicative of fatigue related to following public health measures.
They say, “It is important that we re-focus our energy on the basic measures that can keep us safe — the same ones that got us through the spring first wave, including: the 3 Ws of washing hands frequently, watching distance and wearing a face covering correctly.”
Sunday saw four cases in Grey Highlands, two in Huron-Kinloss, one in Southgate, one in West-Grey, one in Kincardine, and one in Arran-Elderslie.
Saturday saw the confirmation of six cases: Two were in Kincardine, two in Grey Highlands, one in Arran-Elderslie and one in Northern Bruce Peninsula.
There are 33 confirmed active cases in Grey Bruce.
No one is currently hospitalized and no one has died locally from the virus.
Public Health says there are no outbreaks in long-term care homes, retirement homes, schools or daycares in Grey Bruce.
Meanwhile, the Health Unit says it is working with Bluewater District School Board to address a case of COVID-19 associated with Bruce Peninsula District School in Lion’s Head.
They say while there is a case associated with a school, their assessment to date, indicates the transmission did not take place within the school environment.
Public Health says anyone who is not contacted by Public Health is not considered at risk and need not take any additional steps including asymptomatic testing.
Outside of the region, the province reported 1,248 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday and 29 new deaths showing a slight decline in case numbers but deaths have reached their highest numbers since the end of the spring.
