Saugeen Shores police have arrested and charged a 26 year old local man with a number of firearms and drug offences.
Police say they were called at about 8 Wednesday night (Nov 11) about a disturbance at an apartment complex in Port Elgin.
Officers say they spoke with the man living there, then entered the apartment to make sure there was no one in distress.
While inside apartment, police say they saw what appeared to be a long gun on the floor of a bedroom without a trigger lock.
It turns out, the man was wanted by Saugeen Shores Police.
The gun was identified as a loaded ASR 9mm semi automatic long gun with a 15-round magazine.
Early Thursday morning, police executed a search warrant at the apartment and seized various calibers and quantities of ammunition, multiple firearm magazines and a small quantity of suspected meth and fentanyl.
The 26 year old Saugeen Shores man was charged with the following offences:
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Methamphetamine
Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Other Drugs – Fentanyl
Failure to Comply with Undertaking
Police say he was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
