The Province is lowering thresholds in its Covid-19 Framework to curb rising case counts.
Today Premier Doug Ford said Thursday’s modelling projections were alarming with up to 6,500 cases possible by mid-December if action isn’t taken.
This means Hamilton, Halton, Peel, Toronto and York Region will be moving to the Red-Control level.
Brant, Durham, Eastern Ontario, Niagara, Ottawa, Waterloo and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph will move to Orange-Restrict
And Haldimand, Huron Perth, Middlesex-London, Sudbury, Simcoe-Muskoka, Southwestern Ontario and Windsor Essex will be in Yellow-Protect
The changes take effect Monday, except for Toronto which happens Saturday.
Ford says Ontario is staring down the barrel of another potential lockdown.
“Based on current projections, intensive care units (ICUs) could be overwhelmed in six weeks and the impact on our hospitals would be absolutely devastating,” he said.
For long-term care homes, visitor restrictions will apply to public health regions within the Orange-Restrict and Red-Control levels in the framework. This will go into effect on Monday.
The Premier adds that further adjustments to the framework could come in the near future.
