Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
In an unusual year for sports and life-as-we-know-it and life-as-we-knew-it, today is the opening round of The Masters in Golf.
Normally, a sure sign of Spring, The 2020 Masters was bumped to mid-November by COVID-19 and has created a strange out-of-sequence feeling.
Golf is the sporting season opposite to curling, which is also in a state of flux to a certain extent.
A recent check of curling.ca indicated a large number of championship events were either cancelled or listed as ” TBA ”
On the curling.ca agenda are 3 major events.
– The Scotties Tournament of Hearts at Thunder Bay in February
– The Tim Hortons Brier in March at Kelowna, B.C
& the World Men’s Curling Championship set for April in Ottawa
Finally, there was an interesting local curling note this week.
The Williamsford Curling Club is considering opening and operating this year.
The Williamsford Club hopes to get rocking and rolling in early December but the key determining factor is the level of participation at the facility.
As a result, the Club is reaching out to other regional clubs that are not operating this season to see if their members would consider using Williamsford as their home club in the short term.

I’m Fred Wallace
