The Mile Drive Trail at Harrison Park in Owen Sound will be getting paved at the end of this month.
Owen Sound’s Manager of Parks and Open Spaces Adam Parsons says some preparatory work will be completed over the next two or three weeks, including the removal of unnecessary culverts and trail widening to meet accessibility standards.
He says the contractor for the project has provided the date of Nov. 30 for when asphalt surfacing of the Mile Drive Trail will begin. It will likely be complete in early December.
The portion of the Mile Drive Trail being resurfaced is currently gravel and runs through a forested area along the east side of the Sydenham River. The trail then crosses a bridge back over the river and loops back through the west side of Harrison Park.
City council allocated $100,000 in its 2020 capital budget for the asphalt surfacing of the Mile Drive Trail.
This is the second major trail resurfacing completed at Harrison Park in recent years, after the Freedom Trail which runs from the 2nd Avenue East entrance to the main parking lot was done in 2018.
Parsons notes both the Mile Drive Trail and Freedom Trail are maintained in the winter.
