NFL Contingency Plans
National Football League owners met yesterday with the primary topic being the potential of a partially completed regular schedule.
Commissioner Roger Goodell stated the league is “committed” to completing its full regular season, but with a sharp rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases, he acknowledged the importance of contingency plans.
If the season gets truncated, the league will expand its postseason from 14 to 16 teams,
A total of 56 employees, including 15 players and 41 staff members, returned confirmed positive tests between Nov. 1st & 7th.
NBA Notes
The NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved the financial terms and parameters that were negotiated between the league and its players.
The league and Players Association confirmed they are in agreement on a revised collective bargaining agreement for the upcoming season
The 72-game schedule will officially commence on December 22nd
The practice facility for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association has been shut down after 3 employees of the Knicks tested positive for the coronavirus.
The Knicks said that all three employees who tested positive for COVID-19 are asymptomatic. The results were discovered during “routine screenings,”
Westchester County — where the Knicks’ practice facility is located — has been identified as a hot spot in New York.
NHL Forecast
National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman says the league hasn’t ruled out having teams play in their own arenas for the upcoming season — with or without fans depending on local circumstances.
The NHL is also exploring the possibility of short-term hubs, with teams subbing in and out for action over the course of 10 to 12 days.
An obstacle to the NHL’s plans is the ongoing closure of the U.S.-Canada border to nonessential travel.
Sweden Pauses Junior Hockey
The Swedish Ice Hockey Association’s executive committee has decided to pause series games for J20 National and J18 Regional due to increased spread of covid-19.
The proposal to pause league games for the respective divisions was prepared in the Swedish Ice Hockey Association’s Elite Committee Men and in the Competition Committee and has now been decided by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association’s executive committee.
The decision is made based on:
Increased spread of infection. Pausing activities provides an opportunity to stop the spread of infection.
Several regions have introduced stricter restrictions due to the spread of infection, which has meant canceled matches and training for several junior teams.
This entails a sporting injustice as matches that are canceled mean that series cannot be completed within the specified time.
Based on the increased spread of infection and the stricter restrictions that have been issued in many regions, we are pausing operations for the time being. The decision applies from 11 November and at least until the turn of the year. We follow the development closely and our ambition is to resume games, but not earlier than the turn of the year, says Olof Östblom, Competition Manager at the Swedish Ice Hockey Association.

Rick Renteria, who was let go by the White Sox after the team made the post-season for the first time since 2008, finished 2nd, followed by Toronto’s Charlie Montoyo.
Miami’s Don Mattingly won the NL Manager of the Year award
Mattingly guided the Marlins to their first playoff appearance since 2003 despite dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak that paused their season and ravaged the roster.
Ontario Series Expands
The Ontario Series Lacrosse fielded two applications for expansion clubs over the weekend.
The Clearview Crushers who are expected to use the Stayner Memorial Arena as their home base were approved for entry into the upcoming season.
Another bid from the Fort Erie Tigers was denied but encouraged to continue building their program with an eye towards future expansion.
Of note, the Ontario Series expects to field a further expansion bid from Western Ontario in 2022.
