The Progressive Conservative MPP for Huron-Bruce says the 2020 budget will be a positive force for the region’s small businesses.
Lisa Thompson points to the budget’s permanent extension of the employer health tax payroll exemption, from $490,000 to $1 million.
The Doug Ford government’s pandemic-delayed budget is also calling for a freezing of scheduled tax increases on beer and wine, something the province claims will aid the hospitality sector.
“People can be reinvested in their businesses. They can be hiring more people.”
An additional $680 million will also be spent on expanding broadband internet to rural Ontario, according to the budget announcement.
The latest provincial spending package includes a new tax credit for seniors to renovate their homes, more cash payouts for parents of young children, and new tax cuts for business.
It also includes $570 million more to fund hospitals, over and above what was announced in the fall.
