It’s battery collection week in Barrie, Orillia and Simcoe County.
Many residents will have received a marked battery bag in the mail, but if not, used batteries can be put in a ziploc bag and left on the curb beside your recycling bin.
A, AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-volt batteries as well as button batteries are being collected.
However, rechargeable batteries, cell phone and lap top batteries, car, industrial and battery packs are NOT accepted in the program.
They may be taken to any County of Simcoe household hazardous waste facility for safe, free disposal.
Collected batteries are consolidated and sent for processing to an Ontario company that separates the various components of the batteries, with approximately 90 per cent of the battery components being recycled.
#BatteryCollection Week runs this week ONLY. Your collection will occur on your regular #collection day during this week of Nov 2-6. Remember to place your sealed #battery bag beside your #recycling bins. https://t.co/x4CHAap3Dl #letssortitout #simceocounty @simcoecountyCS pic.twitter.com/wXh3rveCJy
