Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced millions in funding to help Indigenous communities battle the effects of Covid-19.
Trudeau says over $120 million will go towards helping Indigenous communities hire extra staff and provide training for early learning and childcare facilities.
As well, over $25 million will also help Indigenous post-secondary institutions with increased costs due to the pandemic.
Another $59 million will be put towards improving infrastructure in First Nations communities.
“Indigenous peoples and communities continue to face unique challenges during this pandemic,” he said. “Our government is working in partnership with communities to address that and to ensure that everyone has the support they need.”
Trudeau also stressed that efforts need to be maintained to fight the second wave across the entire country.
He says the situation is serious and it’s not the time to stop following health measures.
