The Central Ontario Poppy Campaign is being launched in Barrie this morning.
Every year, from the last Friday of October to November 11, tens of millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to honour Canada’s Veterans and remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today.
This year, the Royal Canadian Legion has partnered with HSBC Bank Canada to make it safe, secure, and easier than ever to donate and wear a poppy with touchless HSBC “Pay Tribute” tap-enabled donation boxes.
Officials will participate in a poppy pinning ceremony at 9:30am along with Veterans representing several Legions to officially launch the 2020 fundraising campaign locally and across Canada.
The ceremony will take place at the legion on St Vincent Street and the event will be broadcast live on Facebook. Please click here to watch.
Many local dignitaries are expected to attend the socially-distanced ceremony, including:
• Silver Cross Mother Carol Collier
• John Brassard, MP, Barrie-Innisfil
• Doug Shipley, MP, Barrie-Springwater-Oro Medonte
• Terry Dowdall, MP, Simcoe Grey
• Bruce Stanton, MP, Simcoe North
• Andrea Khanjin, MPP, Barrie-Innisfil
