The top executive at Tiverton-based energy company Bruce Power is being recognized by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
Bruce Power Chief Executive Officer Mike Rencheck has been named CEO of the Year as part of the provincial chamber’s 2020 Ontario Business Achievement Awards.
According to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the award is given to a CEO with exceptional leadership over the past 12 months, bringing their organization to a new level of growth and success within their industry.
A company news release explains Rencheck joined Bruce Power in 2016 and has overseen the company’s operations, isotope programs and community and economic development efforts.
Under Rencheck’s leadership, Bruce Power also launched a $13-billion life extension program to extend the operation of its eight nuclear units to 2064.
“I’m extremely grateful to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce for the OBAA award and I accept it on behalf of our employees whose collective efforts have kept us safe and healthy through a very challenging 2020,” Rencheck says in a statement. “We have been able to continue safe and reliable operations on our site, and at the same time, work with our suppliers, elected leaders, businesses and organizations to help people in our communities through this public health crisis.
Since the pandemic struck in March, Rencheck rallied Bruce Power and its supply chain to secure personal protective equipment for frontline health-care workers in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties, and other parts of Ontario.
The Tiverton company has provided around 2-million pieces of PPE to front-line organizations throughout the pandemic.
Under Rencheck’s leadership, Bruce Power also established a community economic development platform that has led to over 60 companies moving into Grey, Bruce and Huron counties.
“We are extremely proud to honour Mike Rencheck as CEO of the Year. He has contributed significantly to the prosperity of communities across the province,” says Ontario Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Rocco Rossi in a statement.
