OPP say conducted energy weapons (CEW) have been used in two recent robbery incidents, including one in Orillia.
Police say on Sunday morning, a person using an ATM in a Coboconk bank was approached by a stranger who brandished a taser and demanded cash.
No one was injured, but $300 was stolen and the suspect fled on foot.
Then this morning (October 26th) at 6:15 am, a person using a drive-thru ATM in Orillia was approached by a stranger who brandished the same kind of weapon and demanded cash.
Police say the victim drove off, leaving their bank card in the ATM, but the suspect was unable to take out any money.
The canine unit was called in, but police didn’t find the suspect.
The suspect in the Coboconk case is described as male, 5’6″, about 40 years of age, with black hair, wearing a black jacket, black mask, black toque and armed with a CEW.
The suspect in the Orillia case is described as male, about 5’7″ and 30 years of age, wearing all black clothing and armed with a CEW.
