The proposed purchase of 95% of the New York Mets by an entity of billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen has been approved by Major League Baseball’s ownership committee.
Final approval is expected in the next month.
The sale values the Mets franchise at $2.4 billion to $2.5 billion.

Washington Football Team
Officials of the Washington franchise in the National Football league relate the moniker ” Football Team ” will remain in place next season.
The team retired the ” Redskins ” name it used for 87 years in July, after launching a thorough review 10 days earlier.
For years, Washington owner Dan Snyder had resisted changing the name;
However, Snyder and the franchise were under more pressure after the protests following the death of George Floyd in May
Within a few weeks of Floyd’s death, sources said Snyder had been discussing the name change with NFL officials for several weeks.
The team also felt financial pressure from investors and several sponsors to change the name.

Knights ” Opener “
The Greater Metro Junior Hockey League web page has listed the season opening game for the Knights of Meaford on Thursday November 19th against the South Muskoka Shield.
Officials with the Knights relate the schedule posting is simply procedure on the part of the league and there’s no indication there will be a game played on that date and in fact, the Knights have received no formal direction or guidelines from the league.
The Knights will be holding a series of team skates beginning November 3rd.
To assist with the Knights of Meaford program, billet families for 5 players are required.

Goderich Acquires Kuepfer
The Goderich Flyers of the Provincial Junior Hockey League have acquired defenceman Riley Kuepfer from the Mitchell Hawks.
The 19 year old from Listowel scored 3 times last year for the Hawks in Pollock Division action.
Over 3 seasons, Kuepfer has scored 5 times in 71 games and accumulated 143 penalty minutes.
