A motion to create a committee that would have looked into ethics in spending by the Federal Government has been defeated, which ends the chance of a snap election.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had suggested a yes vote could have triggered an election, but the outcome on the proposed special committee on corruption avoided that possibility yesterday.
Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has pledged to continue asking tough questions on spending.
“We are voting for Canadians, we are voting against an election – we are going to continue to work for people and that means continuing to hold the government to account,” said Singh.
The final vote was 180-146 against forming the committee.
Earlier, Federal Conservative leader Erin O’Toole had said his party simply wanted Trudeau to answer questions many Canadians have about the WE Charity scandal in particular.
