A pilot project that outfits some Barrie Police officers with body-worn cameras starts today (October 13th).
Cameras attached to the officers’ uniforms, usually on the chest, will capture video and audio evidence during investigations.
The video will provide visual evidence for court proceedings, but will also aid transparency in the community.
Officers involved will also issue pamphlets with a survey link to all contacts who are recorded for their input and feedback.
That information will assist the Barrie Police in evaluating body-worn cameras in the community.
An FAQ document is available online by visiting www.barriepolice.ca and addresses questions around when the cameras will be activated, privacy concerns, and how the information is stored.
