Owen Sound Police have laid charges in a robbery investigation.
Police say a 39-year-old local man was arrested Wednesday afternoon as part of an investigation into a recent robbery at a west side apartment.
Police say the victim had gone to the apartment of the accused voluntarily but after spending some time there, he was prevented from leaving and then allegedly robbed, repeatedly punched, kicked and hit with a weapon as he tried to leave.
Police say the victim later went to the ER at the Owen Sound Hospital where he was treated and released. Police say he was fortunate they didn’t have serious injuries as a result of the incident.
As part of their investigation, police say they executed a search warrant at the suspect’s 3rd Avenue West residence. They say several items belonging to the victim were recovered along with the weapons that are alleged to have been used in the robbery.
Police say they also found about $1,500 worth of meth.
The accused faces numerous charges including Robbery, Forcible Confinement, Assault with a weapon, Uttering Threats, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Police say the accused (whose name was not released) has made an initial court appearance and remains in custody.
