Both the Federal and Ontario governments are providing over $250 million in order to mass-produce electric vehicles and their batteries.
The announcement came this morning at Ford Motor Co.’s plant in Oakville.
Premier Doug Ford, who appeared with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the announcement today, said Ontario is matching the Federal Government’s $295 million.
“With the combined contributions from Ford, Ottawa and the Province, today’s announcement represents the largest investment in Ontario’s auto sector in over 15 years,” he added.
Retooling the plant for mass production of battery-electric SUV’s will save some 3,000 jobs and also boost a transition to a renewable energy economy.
Prior to the overall $1.95 billion project, Ford has put over 800,000 electrified vehicles on the road.
