Hanover police have arrested a Kitchener man and laid a dozen charges against him after a struggle in a drive-thru.
Police say at about 9:30 Friday morning, an off-duty officer noticed a suspicious BMW in the Tim Hortons drive-thru on 10th Street in Hanover.
Police say a licence plate check showed they weren’t registered to that car.
They say the off-duty officer believed the vehicle would flee, so they approached the car while it was in the drive-thru, and the driver reportedly tried to break out of the line to get away.
Police say a struggle ensued.
They say bystanders called 911 for more police who came to assist in arresting the man.
Police say a search of the vehicle turned up $20,000 in cash, a shotgun and fake licence plates.
They say the 32 year old Kitchener man was unlawfully at large and wanted on over 25 criminal and drug charges that include drug trafficking and firearms offences in Kitchener and Calgary.
Hanover Police laid an additional 12 charges against the man.
They’re thanking the people at the Tim Hortons who called for more officers to help in the arrest, and are also thanking a woman who blocked the suspect’s vehicle from leaving the drive-thru with her own vehicle. They say the officer likely avoided significant injury because of that.
