A man has been arrested following a police chase in Bracebridge.
Police say just before midnight on Friday, an officer clocked a vehicle doing 143 km/hr on Highway 11 northbound and the driver refused to pull over.
The vehicle exited from Highway 11 North onto Cedar Lane and continued into the town at a high rate of speed, refusing to stop for police.
After a short pursuit the officer was able to block the vehicle in on Shier Street, but the driver lurched his vehicle at the officer and was ultimately able to maneuver out of the situation.
Officers located the suspect vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 11, eventually exiting into Gravenhurst and ultimately conducted a traffic stop as it entered a driveway on Fernwood Drive.
Officers arrested the driver, commenced an investigation and located a loaded handgun in the vehicle.
Police arrested and charged 31 year-old Colin OLAFEMI of Brampton with the following:
· Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm CC 95(a)
· Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order CC 117.01(1) X 4
· Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon CC 270.01(1)(a)
· Flight From Peace Officer CC 320.17
· Dangerous Operation CC 320.13(1)
· Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition CC86(1) X 2
· Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm CC92(1)
· Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm CC 94
· Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm CC 91(1)
· Several Highway Traffic Act Offenses
The accused was held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, ON on Monday October 5, 2020.
The passenger has not yet been located and is described as a clean shaven, non-white male.
