West Grey police have charged a man with a number of offences including attempted murder after he allegedly threatened police and targeted officers with some dangerous driving.
Police say on Friday, September 25th they began an investigation after a man went to both the Hanover and West Grey Police stations and uttered death threats towards police officers. Police say he fled both locations before he could be arrested.
They say officers located him a short time later, but he took off in a vehicle from a West Grey residence.
According to West Grey Police, a chase ensued where the man tried to run the police vehicles off the road.
In the interest of public safety, officers stopped chasing after him.
They reportedly spotted his vehicle shortly after in Hanover where they ‘strategically followed’ it until enough backup was available to try and stop the vehicle using a tire deflation device.
Police say the suspect drove directly at West Grey officers who were on the road and hit the spike belt, but turned his vehicle around and rammed a cruiser causing extensive damage to it.
At that point, police say they were able to arrest the man.
Police have not released his name but say a 43 year old Ferndale man is charged with Attempted Murder, Assault with a Weapon, Dangerous Driving, Utter Threats X2, Flight from Peace Officer X2.
Any witnesses to this incident are asked to call the west Grey Police at 519 369 3046.
