Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
Game 6 of the 2020 Stanley Cup Final between the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning is set for tonight in the Edmonton bubble.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will once again try and dispatch the Dallas Stars in the best of 7 series in which the Lightning hold a 3-2 series lead.
Dallas won the opening game 4-1 and I think it’s fair to say the Stars took advantage of a somewhat emotional drained Tampa Bay squad who had just come off a 7 game series with the New York Islanders.
But after the opening game, for the most part, is was all Tampa Bay.
They roared out to a 3-0 lead in Game 2 and won it 3-2.
They celebrated the return of captain Steven Stamkos in a 5-2 win in Game 3.
Their power play clicked in overtime in Game 4 for a 5-4 win.
Truthfully, I’m surprised there is a Game 6 tonight as the Lightning were the far better team in Game 5, dominating possession, territory and quality scoring chances yet falling on the Corey Perry double overtime marker as Dallas survived with a 3-2 win, thus forcing Game 6 tonight.
It’s been a very entertaining Stanley Cup, maybe the best September Stanley Cup of all time.
However, based on the trend, I don’t see a Game 7 and Tampa Bay should hoist the Stanley Cup tonight.
I’m Fred Wallace
