The Canada Emergency Response Benefit has come to an end.
That means millions of Canadians are being transitioned to a temporarily simplified EI program if they still can’t work due to COVID-19.
If you received the CERB through Service Canada, you’ll be transitioned to the new program once you’ve been paid all of the money you were entitled to.
However, if you got the CERB from the Canada Revenue Agency, you’ll need to apply for EI through Service Canada.
If you’re not eligible for EI, you might be able to apply for one of three new benefits offered by the federal government, which have now come into effect.
The Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) will pay $500 per week for up to 26 weeks, to workers who are self-employed or are not eligible for EI.
The Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) of $500 per week for up to two weeks, for workers who are sick or must self-isolate for reasons related to COVID-19.
And finally, the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB) which provides $500 per week for up to 26 weeks per household, for eligible Canadians unable to work because they must care for a child under the age of 12 or family member because schools, day-cares or care facilities are closed due to the pandemic.

As of Sept.27 🗓️, the #GC will transition from #CERB to a flexible & more accessible #EI program. EI will now be available to more Canadians, incl. those who would not have qualified for EI in the past, supporting an additional 400,000 people. ➡️ https://t.co/dZH67sYs9N https://t.co/LPxa5zSGNI
