Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
As we head into the weekend, let’s backtrack on a couple of items from last weekend at Hanover.
First, Whispering Hills Golf Club had their 95th annual Men’s Championship
Shawn Kaufman from Walkerton became a 6 time champion shooting a 79 to win by 4 strokes over Shayne Baltzer.
Meanwhile last Saturday, the 2020 harness racing season concluded at Hanover Raceway.
As we mentioned last week, Doug McNair won the 2020 driving titles.
Other prominent award winners were Patrick Shepherd won was the Dash Winning Trainer, John Kennedy who captured the Ray and Lue Leifso Award and Austin Sorrie who was the first ever winner of the Bud Fritz Rising Star Award.
The big winner at Hanover Raceway in 2020 WAS Hanover Raceway who had a banner season at the betting window, or more accurately through online wagering.
The handle for their 15 card season was in excess of $ 750,000 which represented a 91 % jump from 2019.
Here’s hoping for 2 things;
1) a return to normal so race fans can be at the track on Saturday afternoons.
& 2) and I’m probably dreaming here, but how about another 91 % jump next year ?
Have a great weekend.
We’ll see you tomorrow at the Families for Autism Golf Tournament at Sauble Golf & Country.
I’m Fred Wallace
