Ontario will invest $741 million to help clear the backlog of surgeries and build more capacity in the healthcare system to manage Covid-19 surges and outbreaks.
Today Health Minister Christine Elliott said new measures will include investing in virtual care options and increasing critical care beds and patient spaces in hospitals and other facilities.
“To safely reduce the backlog for health services, this investment will (also) support additional volumes of priority surgeries like cancer, cardiac cataract and orthopaedic procedures,” said Elliott. “We’re also extending diagnostic imaging hours at healthcare facilities for MRI’s, CT scans and other critical procedures.”
Elliott adds that the Province will also build a centralized patient waitlist and improve existing resources.
