Saugeen Shores Police say several items have been recovered from an apartment complex in Port Elgin that went up in flames Sunday evening and have been sent for testing to help determine the cause.
Saugeen Shores firefighters, police and Bruce County paramedics were called to a blaze at the multi-dwelling unit at 560 Ivings Drive just prior to 7 p.m. Sept. 20.
More than 40 firefighters were involved in the response and police say the blaze was quickly brought under control. Severe fire and smoke damage was mostly confined to one unit.
A Port Elgin man was airlifted to the London Health Sciences Burn Unit with injuries considered serious. Other occupants in the residence escaped unharmed.
Police previously said an explosion occurred that resulted in the fire.
The Saugeen Shores Police Criminal Investigation and Drug Unit, Saugeen Shores Fire and the Office of the Fire Marshal have been investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
A search warrant was obtained by police to investigate the fire scene.
“Several items were recovered as evidence and have been sent away for testing,” Saugeen Shores Police say in a release. “The results of the testing will assist in determining the cause of the fire.”
